Family Sponsorships

One of the objectives of the Canadian Immigration Act is to reunify families.

Receiving social assistance for reasons other than disability, being bankrupt, having been convicted of threatening or committing a violent act against a family member or of sexual assault, not repaying social assistance costs paid by the government to a previously sponsored person, or being under 18 years old are factors that prevent a Canadian resident or citizen from sponsoring a relative.
