Provincial nominations are agreements that 12 out of the 13 provinces and territories in Canada have with the Federal Immigration Ministry to select their own candidates for permanent residency. The provinces base their selection criteria on their individual economic needs and labor demands. Each province has different rules, scores, and conditions.

Provincial nominations provide an option for individuals who, for some reason, no longer meet the required score to be invited to apply for permanent residency under the Federal Programs.
