In general terms, a job offer is required to work in Canada, although in some cases “open” work permits can be obtained.
Open work permits allow you to work in any position and for any company. These are normally granted to dependents of foreign workers or international students or to international students who have completed their studies.
Work permits obtained through a company allow the holder to work only for the company that offered the position and in the specific position for which the permit was requested. These can be requested through an LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment) or exempt from LMIA, including Tratados de Libre Comercio (TLC) or the French-speaking mobility program.
