How to apply for Canadian citizenship

To apply for Canadian citizenship, the candidate must demonstrate that they have physically lived in Canada for 1095 days (3 years) during the last 5 years and have declared taxes if required to do so in accordance with the regulations of the Canadian Department of the Treasury.

Applicants between 18 and 54 years of age must demonstrate that they have a level of English equivalent to 4 in the Canadian standard and must take and pass the Canadian rights and responsibilities test. Days lived in Canada before becoming a permanent resident, under temporary status (visitor, student or worker), count as half a day.

Permanent residents who are members of the military or employed by Canadian embassies or consulates outside of Canada perform their duties on what is considered «Canadian soil.» Therefore, each day lived outside of Canada representing the country counts as one day physically lived within Canada.
